WE CAN Fought & Won Against the Local Sand Mine Industry

Polk County, Florida — WE CAN, along with other community entities, opposed the permit for a non-phosphate soil cement batch plant to be put between two residential neighborhoods, Ridgewood Lakes and Oak Haven Estates. (Ridgewood Lakes is a 55+ community. Oak Haven is a mixed age community.)  Both of these neighborhoods would have endured corrosive cement dust in the air 24/7 for 10 years. Both neighborhoods provided unanimous support to WE CAN in opposing the sand mine. After attending numerous Planning and Board of County Commissioners meetings fighting this permit we finally won after more than a year.
